08/10/16 Straight From The Trainers Mouth

Richard Hannon

2:20 Newmarket – Flying North
This is a step up from what she has been doing but she appears to have shown the necessary improvement from her last start. She is a lovely big filly who will be even better again next year.
★★★☆☆
4:45 Newmarket – Euginio 14/1
There shouldn’t be an issue with him getting the trip and he is a horse who is still learning plenty, he will be even better again next year. I would be disappointed here if he couldn’t sneak a place.
★★★☆☆
5:20 Newmarket – Light Up Our World 20/1
She is owned by Derek Boocock and has run some very game races this year, winning the Distaff at Sandown followed by a very tough performance in the Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood up against the boys. She is in fine form at home and I would be very happy if she could finish in the first four.
★★★☆☆

Richard Fahey
4:55 York – Gleese The Devil 13/2
Gleese The Devil won the Coral Stayers Stakes last season and ran well at Hamilton last time. He looks to be coming back to form and must have a chance again providing the ground isn't too quick
★★★★
7:45 Newcastle – Eldorado Creek
Eldorado Creek got jarred up but is back moving and working well again. He must have every chance in the Rockfon Maiden Stakes.
★★★★

Silvestre De Sousa
1:45 Newmarket – Futoon 20/1
It’s good to get a ride for an in-form trainer like Kevin Ryan. He won the Ayr Gold Cup just a couple of weeks ago and his horses have to be respected.
She needs to improve a bit to challenge here, but I’m hopeful of a good run. Mick Channon’s Kassia could be a big danger. She won well at Pontefract last time and is a very tough filly, she can be very hard to beat on her day.
★★☆☆☆
2:20 Newmarket – Muthmira 7/1
I won on her last time out and I think she’s a nice filly. This looks a very competitive race full of class fillies, though, and we’ll do well to challenge.
★★★☆☆
2:55 Newmarket – Rodaini 5/1
My best chance of a winner this weekend has to be on Rodaini in the Autumn Stakes. He’s obviously a good colt having won all four of his starts and he still has more to give. I hit the front a furlong out at Doncaster and thought I was going to win easy, but he idled a bit in front and still has lots to learn. He’s a big baby really. Some people have been asking if he will be good enough to go for the Guineas. Let’s just see how he gets on in this and then we’ll see.
★★★★
3:30 Newmarket – NO RIDE
Aidan O’Brien is something else. He’s exceptional, a top trainer that makes history year on year. I think his Churchill will take plenty of beating in the Dewhurst. Having already won a Group 1, he’s got the best form in the race and you’d have to fancy his chances of winning another.
4:10 Newmarket – Sweet Selection 8/1
My ride, Sweet Selection, is definitely well-handicapped and I think she has a good chance. We haven’t got the best draw out wide in 23, but anything can happen in a race like this. I think there will be plenty of pace from the start and I will have to be very alert coming out of the stalls. Hopefully we can get a nice position. As I said about Scatter Dice, don’t write off Mark Johnston’s runners. Yorkidding and Oriental Fox both have chances in my eyes.
★★★★
4:45 Newmarket – Bear Valley 12/1
My final ride of the day is Bear Valley in the Zetland Stakes. I rode him to win over seven furlongs at Epsom back in July and I’m pleased to be back on board today. Today’s extra distance shouldn’t be a problem. He’s very strong for a two-year-old and is likely to improve for the step up in trip. Roger Varian’s Defoe is the one to beat.
★★★☆☆

Hugo Palmer
16:20 York - Gulliver
He has had a long break since disappointing over 6f here in May, and we are stepping him up to 7f and trying him in blinkers. His work is more than good enough for him to win a maiden of this nature, but he has to want to try.

★★★★
16:45 Newmarket - Star Archer
He doesn't want the ground too quick, which is a worry, but we had some heavy dews here in Newmarket earlier this week - and they put 3mm on the home straight on Wednesday - so that helps. We had the 1m option of the Autumn Stakes for him but we have decided to come down the 1m2f route.
His Windsor second obviously worked out very well, and he had a nice confidence-booster when winning at Haydock last time. He is a lovely middle-distance prospect, and in fact I haven't ruled out going for the 1m2f Group 1 in Paris if he runs well here.

★★★★
