10/11/16 Straight From The Trainers Mouth

Julia Feilden
12.25 Southwell Limerick Lord 5/1
Thursday sees the return to action of one of our lucky tracks as Southwell kicks off its winter season. The course's unique surface is very specialist and we carefully select the right horses to run there. We seemed to get it right plenty of times last year with a bucket-load of winners, including Limerick Lord who heads back there. He has had excuses on his last few runs and has dropped to a good handicap mark as a result. He acts well on the track so I hope he can make it a good first day back there.

12.45 Towcester- Double Court 3/1
Took some time to come to hand, but after 17 runs finally came good at Newton Abbot. A good run into second at Perth last time after an 11lb rise, produced a further rise of 3lb to 96. He seems suited by this trip and looks sure to go close again. Jamie Bargary resumes as regular pilot.

1.15 Towcester - Horseguardsparade 11/2
Is a versatile sort between flat and hurdles and drops back to 2m after a decent effort over 3m 2f at Warwick last time. Down a pound, he has decent form with a couple of runners up slots over 4f further, but that form puts him in with a very good chance here. Jamie Bargary rides.
★★★★☆
2.35 Ludlow - Ballyhill 15/8
Won ten days ago on his hurdling debut over 2m at Hereford and steps up to 2m 5f here. He gets a 5lb penalty but looks very capable of defying that and should go very close or better again. Ryan Hatch rides.
★★★★★
3.05 Ludlow- Big Casino 11/2
Has been in good form with a runners up slot before winning at Stratford last time over 2m 6f. He's up in trip to 3m 1f and up 6lb, but he's in very good form and has every chance again. Another good run expected, Ryan rides.
★★★☆☆
3.35 Ludlow - Bring Back Charlie 9/2
Had a hattrick of runners up berths before coming good at Uttoxeter four weeks ago, all over 2m. Up 6lbs here and up to 2m 5f here could provide further improvement and he's likely to stay this trip better than most. Can defy the rise and go close again, Zane Baker aboard in this amateurs race.

David Pipe
1.15 Towcester Tobacco Road 9/4
Tobacco Road ran a better race when third at Bangor last time out and a reproduction of that effort would give him every chance (especially as he is 3lbs ahead of the handicapper today).
★★★★★
2.45 Towcester Bella 4/1
Bella takes in the qualifier for the mares' challenger series over 2m3f and she has top weight of 11-12 to carry.  That looks plenty enough to me and she could probably benefit from a bit of help from the handicapper.
★★☆☆☆
3.35 Ludlow Houston Dynimo  14/1
Houston Dynimo has been a great servant to the yard and he takes in the amateur riders handicap hurdle where he is partnered by Rex Dingle.  He is well-weighted from a mark of 94 as he has won chases from 122 although at the age of 11 he has not shown that sort of form for a while.
★★☆☆☆

Martin Keighley
2.05 Ludlow Quantum Of Solace 5/1
She was jumping and travelling really well on her debut over fences until a horrendous mistake where Andrew Tinkler did well to keep the partnership together but it was race over.  Hopefully she will have learnt from that and won't mind the good ground and I think she has a solid chance in a competitive race.

Ed Dunlop
4.25 Chelmsford City Magdalene Fox 7/1
He is making his Nursery debut and he is wearing first time blinkers to try and help him concentrate. The draw is not ideal in ten and I hope he does not have to use up too much energy early on in the race. It is not a strong affair with only Auric Goldfinger boasting one solid piece of form but there are likely to be one or two that improve on what they have shown so far, I hope he can run respectably from his mark of 60.

1:55 Southwell – New Road Side 13/2
Connor Beasley rides her and they come from stall 8 of the 14 runners. New Road Side has done well since joining us and last time out she just missed the break and that left her with no chance. On her only previous visit to Southwell she won, so that suggests to us that she should handle the track, and she has a decent draw in stall 8 and the way Southwell traditionally rides, it is a track that suits horses that go forward as they stay out of the kickback and it is a very difficult track to come from behind at, especially over shorter trips. New Road Side has been in good form at home, but she is just starting to go a little in her coat and whatever happens today, it’s will almost certainly be her last run of the year before she has a winter break, as we believe she will come back a bigger, fresher, stronger and improved filly next year and she would be capable of winning a decent sprint handicap or two. Looking at today’s race, it does look a very competitive heat for a race at Southwell and has a number of horses in form, along with a number of proven Southwell specialists which makes it a very tough race to judge. If New Road Side does get out of the gates well today and into a good rhythm early, it would not be impossible for her to run another big race today and go close, we will be doing everything in our powers to help her get out of the gates a well as she can, but if she did miss the break again, Southwell is a very hard track to come from behind when the kickback is flying
