Captain Carol (Ruby) makes her debut over hurdles in the 2 milemares’ maiden hurdle. She had good form in bumpers and jumps well. All herfamily have won over hurdles and we are looking forward to seeing how shegets on today. The ground will be fine for her and we think she has a goodchance.

Sambremont (Patrick) has hisfirst run for us in the 2m 4f QR maiden hurdle. He is a full brother to Djakadam and the experience of his run over hurdles in France will stand to him here. His maiden allowance will come in handy and he has a good each-waychance in this competitive looking contest.

5 15 Kempton Betvictor.com Handicap, over 5f with Seb Sanders on board. This Diamond Green gelding is exceptionally unlucky not to have a couple more wins to his name after some fine efforts in defeat throughout the year. On his penultimate start he ran a great race to finish second when headed on the line and still looks the winner after watching the race again. Last time out at Wolverhampton in November he arguably broke too well as he soon found himself towards the front of the field. He was keen throughout the early stages of the race which probably put pay to his chances at the business end of the race. He is a horse that needs to be switched off at the back of the field and then come with a late run. He seems in good order and did bolt up over this track and trip, last January, albeit off a 6lb lower mark. He is training nicely and we are hoping for a decent run.

Star Of The Stage goes to Kempton for the six furlong £25 Free Bet At Betvictor Maiden Stakes. Owned and bred by Cheveley Park Stud, the gelded son of Invincible Spirit ran well on debut staying on for fourth over six at Wolverhampton in October and followed that up last month with a decent third over today’s course and distance. Tony has partnered him on both his starts to date and is back in the saddle again today.

Chauvelin, has had the odd minor problem which has prevented him running as much as I would have liked. He is trying 1m 4f for the first time, having run 1m and 1m 2f in the past. On his pedigree he is not guaranteed to stay that far, as although Sir Percy won the Derby he was also very quick as a 2yo. He is out of Enforce who was by Kalanisi, but she was at her best over 1m. Being a full brother to Van Percy gives me the biggest hope that he can get the trip. He will need to settle, and although Timeform believes he has a lot to find, I am hopeful he can be competitive.
